Hello FTT DAO members! We wanted to first say a big thank you to everyone who participated in our FTX three-year anniversary NFT art competition! It was absolutely incredible to see the community come together and showcase all the art; the creativity everyone displayed in this contest is truly astounding, and we are so grateful to have so many fans around the world who love the FTT DAO!

We reached out to many of you to reflect on this experience and tell us more about what art and the FTT DAO means to you. We wanted to take the time here to show off our winners from the contest and share some of the responses from the community.

As a refresher, the contest slated thousands of dollars’ worth of FTT for the community to show off their best FTT DAO-inspired NFT art that they could create. The guidelines were simple: design an FTT NFT or a mascot for the FTT DAO.

The earnings for the contest winners are as follows:

  • 1st place (1 winner): 333 FTT
  • 2nd place (3 winners): 33 FTT
  • 3rd place (33 winners): 3 FTT

We also hosted a Twitter Space to discuss the art contest winners and celebrate our community, so be sure to listen to the recording if you missed it.

With that being said, let’s take a look at what the community was able to do!

Congratulations to our First Place Winner

Kicking things off, take a look at the two pieces of art that our first-place winner, Soul Gem, created!

NFT Artist: drawingbonbon

drawingbonbon

As you just saw from his art above, we are starting off with one of our second-place winners, drawingbonbon (@drawingbonbon)! We asked a few questions about their art story and the inspiration behind entering the contest.

What made you become an artist?

I guess the main reason is that I really love to draw. I can’t specifically remember how it started, but what I know is that I have been drawing and making doodles since I was four years old – and that just didn’t stop. I just continued to improve and discover different mediums in creating art.

What motivates/inspires you to create digital art/NFTs?

As of now my motivation and inspiration in creating digital art/NFTs is my family (my wife and son), since NFTs are said to be the future of art where opportunities await every artist. So whatever come my way related to art, it’s always for my family.

What do you hope to achieve with your digital art?

Because I am a father now to a beautiful baby boy, what I really want to achieve with my talent in creating art is financial stability. It’s always a dream to somehow earn a living doing the thing that I love.

What is your favorite NFT project or digital artist?

I’m still fairly new to NFTs so I can’t say I have my favorites, but I guess the very first NFT art I saw, since it became viral, was the Bored Ape Yacht Club. As for digital artists, I’m not sure if they also create NFTs, but a few who have influenced my work are Artgerm and jeehyunglee.

What was the inspiration behind your FTT DAO entry?

I’ve came across Sam Bankman-Fried online several times and was really impressed with his achievements and goals. So, what inspired me the most in creating my art for the FTT DAO contest was SBF himself and his “earning to give” mindset.

What brought you into the crypto and NFT space?

Honestly, the thing that brought me to the NFT space was my desire to improve more as an artist. To elaborate, here’s the situation: I’ve been procrastinating as an artist for the longest time, and that gradually degraded the quality of art I was producing. So, to combat that I promised to myself that before the year ends, I will join every art contest I can find to challenge myself as well as to improve my art skill. And going online, all I can find are art contests related to NFTs and crypto. That is why, though I have close to zero knowledge about crypto, I still joined the FTT DAO art contest.

If you could design an NFT to benefit a charity, which charity and why?

Definitely UNICEF. I love kids, and because of the massive help UNICEF is providing to all children around the globe, I definitely want to give my share, if it’s through NFTs or by any means.

NFT Artist: ddd_dun

ddd_dun

Another one of our second-place winners, @ddd_dun, shared their story about growing as an artist and discovering digital art.

What made you become an artist?

I’ve loved drawing since I was a child. Becoming an artist has always been my dream. Very luckily, I am enrolled in a cartoon program at my undergraduate study. These experiences laid a foundation for my career of being an artist.

What motivates/inspires you to create digital art/NFTs?

I have noticed and got interested in NFTs long ago, but I have never tried creating one by myself until recently. A friend of mine pursuing a career in the cryptocurrency market recommended to me that I should have a try. That’s why I created digital art this time.

What do you hope to achieve with your digital art?

I hope to achieve an audience and financial rewards. The former will give me sense of achievement and satisfaction. The latter will greatly support my art career.

What is your favorite NFT project or digital artist?

I really like pixel art, such as Doge Capital.

What was the inspiration behind your FTT DAO entry?

There is a famous picture of Sam Bankman-Fried where he slept in a bean bag with screens of work all around. That gave me my first inspiration for the art. Then I collected many other materials of SBF, like meeting clients at 3 am, putting his phone nearby to avoid missing calls, being a vegetarian, etc. These all become parts of the artwork. So, I looked for other SBF details and put them in the screens, like the FTT-Perp page, Stephen Curry, Katy Perry, Slack, Google meeting, and chess. I also put some other small details around SBF: vegetarian food, a mascot, an FTX charger, and FTX cups.

What brought you into the crypto and NFT space?

My friend suggested to me that I enter the space. I hesitated in the beginning because I had little knowledge and wasn’t sure about the technology. However, after my friend’s explanation and my own research online, I found it interesting and wanted to have a try.

If you could design an NFT to benefit a charity, which charity and why?

I personally pay close attention to the charities related with animals, like wildlife protection and animal welfare. This is because I love animals and the cats and dog I adopted had been expelled and hurt by others. Animals have a hard life in the human society, and I hope that more people have more empathy for them.

What made you become an artist?

My dad is an artist, which inspired me to take up the same calling.

What motivates/inspires you to create digital art/NFTs?

I want to be able to express myself and my ideas creatively.

What do you hope to achieve with your digital art?

I strive to make a living from being a digital artist.

What is your favorite NFT project or digital artist?

Robbie Shilstone is one of my favorite digital artists.

What was the inspiration behind your FTT DAO entry?

I wanted to enter the FTT DAO contest because of my passion for FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried, and effective altruism. My piece of art was specifically inspired by one of my favorite academic thought leaders. I chose an elephant based off of William Von Hippel’s evolutionary analogy to being a great leader, which says that moral leaders are those who act in their group’s interest, and benefit from their decisions only to the degree that the group benefits.

Does that sound like anyone to you? SBF!

Along with the mascot and token, I built the image around a space theme of exploration, ingenuity and pushing humanity forward.

What brought you into the crypto and NFT space?

What brought me into crypto was my realization that this was the single most transformative social, technological and economic innovation of our generation. I wanted to further explore how to harness this technology for social good. I have been particularly involved with the Solana NFT community for the past year and have been contributing to various communities and DAOs since then.

If you could design an NFT to benefit a charity, which charity and why?

I actually already have! I created an oil painting on Earth Day and made it into an NFT in order to raise money for one of my favorite web3 organizations, Nori. Nori is special to me because they are using web3 as a force for good in the fight against climate change.

NFT Artist: CheryIC

Lastly, here is a response from one of our third-place winners and a community member, CheryIC (@Pseudocamou)!

What made you become an artist?

To be able to communicate with more people and to get to know more interesting people who also love art.

What motivates/inspires you to create digital art/NFTs?

I want to understand the magic, a social phenomenon, that draws more people towards art than any other media has ever before.

What do you hope to achieve with your digital art?

I always believe that art is a key to open the treasure box in your mind. The more boxes you open, the more beautiful and sophisticated person you will become. I hope my art someday can make me as well as you SPECIAL!

What is your favorite NFT project or digital artist?

Soul Gem (Our first-place winner!)

What was the inspiration behind your FTT DAO entry?

FTT DAO has a special meaning and Da Vinci code to me:

“Friends To Trust – Dareo, Anillo, Odyn”

They are the mascots in yellow I proposed in my submission. In fact, the idea came out after the night I had a joyful chat with two of my friends I just met on Twitter, and I suddenly recalled a scene which involved a group of happy BFFs assembling inside a building facing the ocean blue.

So, the idea of drawing three close friends, standing on the FTT platform symbolized by a blue floating platform in a futuristic city, cheering and chilling, came out at last.

What brought you into the crypto and NFT space?

As per the first question, I am enthusiastic of art and, in the past, I used to enjoy visual paintings, like sculptural art or installation art via exhibition or hard print. And I love drawing myself. Then one day, my friends invited me to join a profile picture NFT project, which started opening up my vision of the NFT space. Although the project ended up not being successful, I anticipated a new era in the art movement and was fascinated to jump in!

If you could design an NFT to benefit a charity, which charity and why?

I would like to benefit AnimalsAsia if I have a chance to design an NFT. I believe there are still people that do not respect the lives of animals and, to them, the classification of ‘pets’ and ‘wild animals’ dominate their mind – a mindset that jeopardizes the freedom of life of other habitants on Earth besides humans. A mindset that’s still positioning humans as the ‘owners’ of Earth. This problem has lots of room for improvement, especially throughout the Asian regions. That’s why I would love to raise more people’s concern to this if ever I get the chance.
