The beauty of crypto is that it’s a common platform that’s uniting people from all walks of life and all corners of the globe. This interview series is FTT DAO’s way of honoring this phenomenon and celebrating how Web3, and the new digital economy, are changing people’s lives for the better.
Today, Augusta Oswald comes to us all the way from Nigeria to tell the story of her crypto journey.
Welcome, Augusta! If you could, tell the audience a little about yourself.
My name is Augusta Oswald. I’m from Akwa-Ibom state, Nigeria. I’m a student at the University of Uyo, a virtual assistant, and a writer. In my free time, I like to cook, read books, view beautiful artworks, have alone time with nature, listen to cool music or watch family drama series.
Tell us about your crypto journey.
My crypto journey started in December 2021. A schoolmate of mine talked to me about crypto and how to use my skill effectively in the crypto space. Shortly after that, I began ghostwriting for some of my friends who were already involved in the space. I’d get paid to write content for them. In June 2022, I was introduced to FTT DAO.
Where did you first learn about FTX and FTT DAO?
I first learned about FTX on the FTT DAO telegram channel. There was an ask-me-anything (AMA) session and the topic was “10 unique features of FTX”. I learned about FTT DAO when I joined back in June. Prior to June, I had no knowledge of FTT DAO or FTX.
What are your thoughts on FTT DAO?
FTT DAO is purpose-driven. That’s one unique fact I like about them. My interests align with the FTT DAO Mission and Vision statement, and it gives me a strong sense of purpose. It feels good to be an FTT DAO BFF. BFFs are a wonderful set of individuals.
It’s a privilege to work with people who are ready to contribute to the mission and vision statement of FTT DAO and ensure they’re effectively and efficiently carried out.
Tell us about any other groups or organizations that drive crypto, Web3, or blockchain innovation that you’re involved in.
Presently, I only belong to FTT DAO.
You just recently partnered with FTT DAO to coordinate a local event, right? What was that like?
The event I worked with FTT DAO to organize was held on the July 23, 2022 at Ibom E-library in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state Nigeria.
Our primary goal was to create awareness about cryptocurrency among those who know nothing or next to nothing about the crypto and the blockchain industry as a whole. We need more people to adopt cryptocurrency as it is the future.
The overall response was awesome; I was especially happy about the turn-out. We had close to 200 guests in attendance. While we were preparing for the event, it rained heavily. I was worried the weather might hinder people from coming to the event.
Despite the heavy downpour and the extreme cold weather, people came out in numbers.
I’m happy that at the end of the day, most people came to understand what the blockchain is and can start up their crypto journey from there. Those people who knew nothing about FTT DAO not only got to know about FTT DAO, but they also got to know about FTX, $FTT, BFFs, Sam Bankman-Fried, and his mission.
It was also a privilege to host blockchain expert Ifiok John and other panelists. They shared a lot of insight with the audience about cryptocurrency and their journey so far in the blockchain industry.
Any message to like-minded people who want to join FTT DAO to spread crypto awareness and education?
The beauty of belonging to a community is not to desperately outshine others but to work with other teammates with a genuine heart and be willing to contribute to the growth of your community in every possible way you can.
What are your thoughts on the role communities play in the crypto space?
The importance of communities in crypto cannot be over-emphasized. Communities can:
- Help projects thrive.
- Encourage teamwork and collective efforts for goals to be achieved.
- Help create awareness about certain projects and allow it to reach a wider range of individuals.
- Collectively buy into the idea of a project.
- In communities, you get to find talented individuals who are goal-driven and, through their contributions, can help bring the community’s project to life.
No matter how good and talented we are as individuals, I believe a lot can be done with like-minded people in a community.
